Hi new to the forums. Just wanted some advice on some shots. What is good, what could i have done better. how would you have shot these pictures. Composistion advice etc. I really like to learn from my mistakes so here it goes.

the first shot is of a friends daughter, unposed just her playing around our house.

the second shot was shot at a hockey game.

they were shot on an a75, unfortunatly they were shot a while ago and i do not remeber the exact settings and they had mild editing with photoshop, brightened the second photo, I do not believe the first one has had any work done to it.

thanks for any advice.

The first one is a nice composition, however, be aware of distracting backrounds, that lead the viewers eyes away from the subject and focus on the eyes. The second one doesn't do much for me, because the action is on the other side and showing the backs of the players creates a rather static pose that is not very interesting. In action photos, try to get interesting facial expressions or at least show action from a perspective that will captivate your audience. Action photography takes practice, just keep at it. Good luck.

I agree with cactus. I'd probably have taken a few shots of the kid to see if I could get a cute one with both eyes in it - but that's one's cute too :)
