My roommates are glass blowers and one of them made these pipes. I asked him if I could borrow them to take a few pictures of.

The gallery can be found here. (http://www.actvsdei.com/~booshanky/?path=./jeff/)

The only problem that i can find with the pictures is that they seem lighter than they are in real life. For example, the background is a matte black which is light for a black, but not as light as it appears in those pictures. Same with the pipes.

I'm using 2 calumet travelight 750 strobes without any cones or anything to diffuse the light. Could that be the reason they're turning out so light? Or is there something wrong that i'm doing with the camera? It's a digital rebel btw.

Thanks

If they are too light, then just underexpose more using the rebel. Either that or lower the power the lights are putting out if possible.

I can also see a few large "hot spots" on the objects. I would suggest you use a softbox or similar to soften the light a bit to lessen this. In addition, bring the object further away from the wall. if you use softboxes the shadows behind the objetcs will be lessened as well.

By the way, great glass. I love wacky glass objects :)

Cheers

It's not really so much that they're too "light", it's just that the colors are too light. The blues dont look that light in that blue pipe for example. If you were to look at it yourself the blue would look to be a deeper blue than it is in that picture.
