Hibernating ladybird

I was out with the kids the other day and stopped to take a photo of a birch polypore, I happened to look at this tree and saw a ladybird hiding away in a small hole. It must be hibernating and I think myself very lucky to have seen it.

They certainly do. Although we've had such mild weather they might well have not bothered.
