View Full Version : Multiple exposures on 20D? Is it possible?

Hi still learning my 20D. Was wondering if someone can chime in on this. On my old 35mm Dreb, I could do multiple exposures on one shot. Is that possible w/ the 20D, and if so, how? Just as an example of what I mean...on my 35mm Dreb, I would take a shot of someone, and then have them move to another spot within the same frame, take a shot of them again, and repeat the process a few more times. Basically, when I developed my film, the photo would have a solid image of the first shot, and then somewhat transparencies of the other positions. Thanks in advance...

I know of no way to do this in camera with any digital body, that is what Photoshop is for :-)

No You can't do that in camera. But You can do it on Your pc. Just take the shots as You would do with Your film body. All photos will be shot individually, then when You get back home You can merge the photos to one.

Thanks jbradc,

So basically, just do multiple shots and then layer.

You might want to clarify what old camera that was. The film Rebel could be forced to shoot two exposures onto one film frame, but that is not the Digital Rebel (Dreb).

None of these Canon EOS digital cameras can do it within the camera. That is what Photoshop is for.

old 35mm Dreb

It's either an old 35mm or a Dreb but not both. :) My 1000FNS could do something like 8 exposures on one frame. Didn't use it often but it was fun.

Yeah, tripod, photoshop, layers, screw with the opacity.

Sure it's nice, with the stroboscopic flash for instance. ;)

Apologies...for some reason I typed the "D" in, I guess its from reading so many posts and seeing DReb. I meant the EOS Rebel 2000.

The 20d has exposure bracketing; is that what you mean?

I'm pretty sure he's referring to exposing the same piece of film more than once, which was a technique that doesn't work with digtial AFAIK.

I know it's not quite the same thing, but I think you can get a similar effect with long shutter openings in the dark while strobing with flash (even with digital).

ed2day,
Thats a great idea, especially if you don't want to have to take multiple shots and then layer. Im going to assume that it would have to be nearly pitch dark in order to make it appear as though the subject is in multiple places. Would that be correct?

Well, if you have to have multiple exposure capability in a digital body, you might want to get yourself the Nikon D2X. But don't tell anybody you heard that from me. ;)

Wish I could be more help, but I've never done it. Just remember hearing about it and taking note that it would be fun to try sometime.
