Hi all,

I'm very new to my canon 450d, and recently took this picture.

My question is how could I prevent the light flare on the left hand tree?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Don't shoot into the sun. There is no way around it if you angle the lens in that direction. Wait for better light-- early morning or afternoon / early evening when the sun is at an angle will give you a number of advantages including a darker, more natural sky, and a more interesting light cast with depth and shading.

Too contrasty and the sun angle is giving you significant glare and forward scatter in the upper portion of the left hand tree. The sky is also bald and un-interesting.

Use a lens hood or hold up a sheet of cardboard so that it casts a shadow covering your lens.

Excellent!

Thanks for the info, this scene is a 30 second walk from my office, so I will try again with your advice in mind.

Thank you!

Also the composition just dont do it for me... if you wanted to make the pond the subject of the picture, i would have take a closer picture... to me the trees are the subject of this picture.

I've got a selection of shots from that location,

http://www.mccran.co.uk/gallery/main.php/v/hartham/

I picked that one because of the image error on the left tree, I'm not all that keen on the composition either, just looking at the failures from the batch, and figuring out where I've gone wrong.

Thanks for the comments :)
