I'm constantly accidentally hitting this dial on my new 24-70L. It doesn't seem to be affecting the photos though. I can't find any info on it either; what's it used for? Thanks

Which dial are your referrng to? Are you talking about the manual focusing ring?

I have a 24-70 L and there are only 3 controls on it
> Focus ring
> Zoom ring
> AF/MF switch
We need more info to answer your question.

No idea what youare referring to, but I know some of my Zuiko lenses focus a touch beyond infinity for those few times you might be in -50 degree weather (the lens contracts requiring a little more reach at infinity to b ein focus.) I doubt that's what your question is about, but kind of curious if canon lenses have a similar compensation for the extreme cold.

I can only guess from above info.
are you refering to the red infinity adjustment marks found within the focus distance scale.
depends which lens you use, some have none ( ie..135 f2.8 soft focus) others have several (28 to 135 is) as infinity settings vary at different focal lengths.
Now the important bit..
you do not need this feature unless you are shooting with infra red film (say kodak high speed infra red for example) focus adjustment is there as the film uses different wavelength of light in effect and therefore sharp focus of subject sometimes requires a small adjustment (this the abreviated version theres more to in reallity)
hope this helps, if this is what you refer to in your post above.

Fedor is banned because he has been banned several times as other usernames for posting extremely rude and inappropriate material to forums. That is why you do not see anything odd (now) in Fedor's posts -- be assured that posts of his other usernames were reason enough to keep this guy out.

I think its sad when someone abuses this forum its here for all, Thankyou.
I have been into photography for 35 years. You pick up a lot info in that period of time mainly related to film of course.
This forum provides a facillity where all can post up and receive information without leaving the house or office.
Well Done.
