I'm stumped. I'm trying to set the image recording mode to RAW on my Digital Rebel (Which I got juat a few days ago) and for the life of me I cant seem to find the setting. The opions I get in the settings menu include 2 Large, 2 Mediums and 2 Small. No RAW option. According to the manual there should be a RAW option too but it doesnt show up for me. Am I missing something ?
(I should add that I dont have a CF card yet :o ... should get it by tomorrow)

I don't have the Rebel, but on the 20D RAW won't show up as an option if you have it in full automatic mode. You need to have it in P, Av, Tv, or M for RAW to show as an option.

Hope this helps.

The Rebel/20D/10D, almost all the Canon Digital SLR, dont allow for Raw shooting in the automatic mode, but rather the Creative Mode ( as mentioned above ).

It may help to know that when you put the hacked firmware on the digital rebel, you'll be able to reduce the size of the raws, by changing the saving mode in the custom feature from RAW+LARGE, to RAW+SMALL. The idea is the older (as of the 20D) , .crw raw, attaches a jpeg copy of the image to the raw file, usally you can just extract the jpeg, but seeing as no one ever does this anymore ( or very rarely ) and just process the raw straight thru, its best to save that extra 1.3MB or so for more shots, by making the jpeg it attaches small instead.

The 20D is a lil different, I think saves a .cr2 file, which is a pure raw. And has the option of saving a seperate .jpg file if you choose to do so.

The Rebel does not have any RAW capability at all, since the Rebel is a film camera.

The Digital Rebel does have RAW, as described.

Cool ! Thanks for the help everyone. I had the camera in full automatic mode. I'm gonna try the manual settings once I get the memory in.
Appreciate all the help :)

You mean there are still people out there using film?

Absolutely. I take my film camera along on any major shooting trip. I keep it all locked up in a glass case that only gets cracked open in the event of an emergency, like a special sunset.

You will also be able to switch between RAW and JPEG with the SET button and the wheel. This is a huge timesaver for me...

When you first go into the quality/size settings if you look at the display it does not show RAW....if you scroll down the the bottom of the "displayed" settings, then go one further the RAW option is there......its basically one off the originally shown screen, but does not make any notice that the menu scrolls down further....

Not exactly sure what you are talking bout, but in automatic mode if you start at Large, and go all the way does, it goes back up to large.

When you choose the 'canned' automatic modes, there's a whole PILE of stuff missing from the menu.. Not just RAW selection.

To see the difference, put your camera in "green square" mode, and scroll through the menu options. Then put it in P, mode and do the same thing......

Ah, I didn't see that it was in Auto......just assumed it was in Creative Zone
