G'Day All.
First picture is a (hopefully) better coloured version of the picture from "The Armada" thread. I think a lot of the lack of contrast may have been due to the salt spray in the air.

The second is of the same ship as it moved closer, and from a slightly different angle. I think the first shot highlights the size better than this one though - not sure why.

The third was actually taken before the others as it rounded Nobbys Headland (with the lighthouse on it), before entering the Harbour.

Last picture shows the fully loaded "Formosabulk Allstar", of roughly similar size to the "Castle Peak", showing how much smaller it looks when sitting low in the water.

Incidentally, a bit of trivia..both these ships are too big for the Panama Canal, and the angled front on the superstructure and bridge are for wind deflection when rounding the Cape - not that they'll need to, on this trip to Taiwan :-)

Like first one most. Small boats emphasize how huge the ship is !
Nice composition :-)

I like like #1 the best. You nailed the edit. It looks much better than it did in your other thread, not that it ever looked bad. Gotta love photoshop.

First one is really cool. What a huge ship. Now we know why they need those souped up tug boats!

Yeah, only have elements2 at the moment, its great, but at the moment is limited by its user :-). Guess if I keep practicing I'll get the hang of it :-)

Yeah, and thick tow ropes :-). The largest ship ever into Newcastle was the "Iron Pacific" which was 315 metres long. I believe that the world's largest ever ship was/is the Jahre Viking at 475 metres (I think it's near the end of its seafaring life now, but would love to have seen it :-))

My brother in law used to be First Mate on ships like this. He had a recurring nightmare that he would fall asleep on watch and wake up and see the lights of the coast ahead. By they time you see the lights it is too late to stop!!
