Literally JUST ordered a Tamrac adventure 9 (Tamrac 5549)! I am very excited to get it (found it NEW for a grand total of $130 on ebay!!)

I am going on a trip to Palo Duro Canyon in northern Texas and am trying to load up on gear.

I have a Lowepro slingshot 300AW but it is not really practical for a hiking situation (I do enjoy it for a "walk around town" bag) so I ordered a more backpack style. I did a lot of research and some of it was on this forum which gave me some great feedback on the bag (in the archives).

I'm also looking to get a big round brim floppy hat for sun protection and I am packing water, first aid, knife, and a compass. I sort of asked this in another thread but while I am on the topic of this trip. Anything else you would suggest I bring with me? This is the first real hike with my camera and my longest hike I have EVER been on, so trying to get things prepared. Thank you!

I will obviously taking the bag out in the field soon after getting it (I leave next fri) so I will definitly post how it worked for me.

Snacks. Don't forget the snacks. I usually bring some candy, nutrition bars, chips, etc. just because I tend to get peckish during my hikes if they last more than an hour. If you get hungry and don't have anything on you, it's a long way back to the car and then to McDonalds :).

Also, don't forget a little plastic bag to stick your trash in. Wouldn't want sticky wrappers touching your gear or crumbs spilling out into the inside of your new bag.
