View Full Version : Mini GKPE Wed 10th September

There has been a suggestion of a mini-GKPE at a very small graveyard & chapel in Parnell.
The grounds contain some very old graves and the church building itself is the oldest chapel in NZ, shifted to Parnell from the Bay of Islands (if I recall correctly).
The site overlooks the ports of Auckland so could present some interesting lighting to that aspect.
The grave yard itself is largely under trees and being at the end of a dead end street (no pun intended), would be realitivly dark. There are some ground mounted flood lighting on the structure but these could be covered.
The site is not overly large but could be interesting.
Looking at the weather forecast, I suggest Wednesday 10th September and possibly meet on site while there is still daylight to familiarise with the (probably very dark) graveyard.
The site is located at the end of Judge Street, Parnell (quite limited parking) and it is a Presbyterian Church, St Stephens.

Hmmm, didn't think to check that, should be over by Tony's suggested time and I can't think there will be hoards of people (only seats about 50). Be a walk-up crowd:rolleyes:
Could even get to have a squiz inside?

Not sure about that, from memory, there isn't any stained glass & it will be alarmed internally.
But, I'll give the office a ring, (I emailed last year or whenever it was to get permission) and ask if we can have a look inside after the service.

That I like!
How does IR work at night or in cold conditions? Other than operator discomfort, does the ambient temperature have much of an effect?
Weather could be a bit dodgy for Wednesday night, but as long as it's not hosing down, should be fine.

I've just been sitting here on the18th floor watching the bad weather roll in over the city. It's just hit us. I doubt that it will clear sufficiently for an outdoors event tonight. :(

Hmmm....just got home.
After packing up my lights & going back to get the last of the gear, a young couple showed up at the end of the street in a wreck of an old ute.
They told me that some lady was sitting at the end of St Stephens Ave with a hose from the exhaust into the back of the car!! Yeah right I thought to myself but decided to check it out anyway.
Well, they were right! After removing the hose, calling the police and trying to stop her driving off, the cavalry arrived in about 10 minutes, 3 cop cars, the Westpac rescue medics & finally an ambulance.
Should have got some photo's:oops::rolleyes:

Very nice, still had issues with the skyports with the receivers way down low on the ground but they worked most of the time.
I'm having issues with my PC & trying to sort it before I try & process any others, some could be ok

Well, I've sort of got my PC working again (or sufficiently long enought to edit a couple of shots), so here are a couple more.
I really need some practice at this & also need to purchase some gels for my flashes, the white balance diferences are a bit hard to fix:cry:

Real nice photos there guys, was there a fair bit of extra light e.g flashes and such?
other than the odd flash going off from time to time, the moon was nearly full but quite cloudy. The majority of the light came from man made sources predominantly this minor light generator about 700 meters away:rolleyes:
