Has anyone used one of these? How do you find them? It's meant to make the image 30% larger, and I presume 30% dimmer? Is it easy to take off and put back on? I just wonder if it'll fit in my camera bag with it on.
It sounds like it'd be more comfortable than having your nose squished against the camera.

I had one on my 10D and transfered it to the 20D when it came.
Personally, I find it is much more comfortable to hold the camera or maybe it just because I have a..er....umm........noble.....nose?

lol@Eric :)
I have a pretty normal sized nose, but I find the flush mounting of the view finder a pain at times, and the smudges are annoying. Does the extender reduce or eliminate that?

The extender helps, so you don't have to press your cheek right up against the LCD. Only problem I have with mine is it keeps falling off.

I have one on the Drebel as well as the 20D, but not for the magnification. I use them to help keep the nose grease off of the LCD screen. :)
I do notice that the standard eyecup, which mounts on the back end, pops off much more easily when moving the camera in and out of the bag. I have lost two of them so far, but I'm still sold on the eyepiece extender.

I had one on my 10D and found it much more comfortable. I don't need one for my 1DmkII. :) They can be very hard to find however. I had to wait 6 weeks to get mine from a mail order house in Texas. They were the only ones that promised to get one at the time (well over a year ago)

I got mine today form B&H and as one whom is forced to wear eye glasses . . . it is a godsend. I can now read the viewfinder information. I think they are only like $18 USD or so. If you shoot much you will love it.

I didnt read the other posts, but no it makes the image smaller not bigger. Not really dimmer.
Its easy to remove.

My primary gripe with they eyepiece extender is that it doesn't stay on the camera very well. If it falls off and you lose it, you've also lost your eyepiece. I gave mine away.

Tried one but didn't like it at all, makes the image smaller and more difficult to see. The lens in it is just a piece of plastic, not very high tech. I tried a tip fom the net and removed the lens to make it an extender only, but that didn't work very well either. Never use it, lies in my box with other bad purchases.

Have to agre with other folks here. Had one and now I don't. Made everything smaller in the viewfinder. I didn't spend a lot of money on long glass to have something make things look smaller.:):)

I'm a bit confused here ... does it make the image smaller or larger?
Reason I am asking is that I would like to use manual focus lenses on my 20D and for this need every help I can get in focusing.
Best regards,
Andy

According to the B&H link above the image is 30% smaller.

Too bad ... then I'll most likely have to pass up that Helios 85/1.5 manual focus lens ...
Best regards,

A better bet if you want accurate focusing is Canon's "Angle Finder C" (useful for macro for instance) but it's an expensive thingy...

I've just got one, they are very good and I personally can't notice the difference through the viewfinder, but you really have to be careful not to loose them, a few times I've noticed that it was coming loose after rubbing on my jacket and the one time it did completly fall off it fortunatly dropped right into my pocket :)

It makes the viewfinder SMALLER and DIMMER!! I did not like it on my 10D!!! Maybe on a 1 series camera.

There is not the same need for an extender on a 1D(II), the eyepiece sticks out a bit already and the viewfinder is bigger and brighter.
