That and if you look at dpreviews preview for photokina, he hints strongly about additional full frame options. It actually sounded to me like he already had a preview model on hand. This is all speculation really, but logic says that canon really has to release the 5D successor this year or they will be losing big market share to the competition.

Its still a rumour. If we had a penny for every post about the 5D that was direct from Canon and was therefore utterly true.....well we'd have a lot. They've all been rumours.

FWIW, I just overlaid last year's 3D rumor images with the evolution images. You should try it. It implies a (smaller) 1 series body. ;)

(thus, the "evolution")That would be interesting....by starting with a shadowy picture of the venerable 5D only to replace it with whatever the new body is. It really would fir the evolution theme well. I don't think that's the route they would take, but I can't put it past them either.

Having a long-lead on a new body could be a viral tactic they're employing to drum up a buzz. Given that the 5D2 is already the most anticipated, most rumor-ridden EOS ever (and notice how every rumor starts with someone who knowns an insider/distributor/weegee board), it could work to stem the tide of Nikon talk.

In any event, as tight-lipped Canon typically is, I suspect that hint dropping like this means that it's immenent. I'll speculate (along with everyone else) that the announcement (of some nature, not necessairly a new body) will be here before the end of the month, and probably in the next two weeks.

Interesting one the less, particularly since I had almost given up on a 5D2 after the 40D and 50D annoucements came and went.
