View Full Version : No wonder UPS didn't knock on the door

This is what the UPS man dropped off at my door... My nifty fifty was in this box

The lens seems ok. It was still secure in the wrapping in it's box. Put it on the camera and it focused and took some shots

Looks like Universal Parcel Smashers (UPS) did their usual work.

Glad to hear that they didn't succeed in actually damaging the lens though.

At least it works and the lens was undamaged. the packaging is technically there to absorb a beating - though I would not expect it to get one to that degree!

I would suggest call Amazon and complain - they need to know when their couriers mess up.

I once had to order some parts for a shower door that were damaged in the original packaging. They were shipped via UPS ground. The parts were about 5 feet long and in a skinny box. When they arrived they were 'L' shaped and sitting on my front porch.

At least they got there though! FedEx lost my first 30D!

Wowser! Was he playing football with it? (Thoughts of Ace Ventura spring to mind :D)

FedEx left a vacuum cleaner for a friend of mine, underneath the doormat outside the front door, and actually put the mat on top of the box, as if it was hidden?! The mind boggles.

It's not always necessarily the UPS driver that does this. All the belts and stations it hits before arrival is probably the one to blame. Typically, the warehouses it goes through will pull these aside and check them, and then stamp it with QA, ensuring the item inside is fine.

That is definitely a sad looking box though.

I'm still laughing at the visual! That's funny!

That's gold. Haven't heard that one before :p

Glad to hear your package is okay! Iv'e once had a package of camera gear arrive like that and only some of the gear inside was okay... not a fun feeling opening it dreading what you're going to find!

Outer cartons are used specifically for this purpose. If the carton was meant to arrive in pristine condition, it would be acceptable to slap a label on the little retail box.

While I agree.. I don't worry about a little "wear and tear" on the box. I figured the lens was bubble wrapped in it's box and then there was more bubble wrap or the air packaging in the big box..

But the box in the picture looks like it got ran over by the truck on one side..:lol:
