Saw the review of this lens at Popular Photography, and they spoke VERY highly of it. I had the Canon 100 2.8 macro at one time, but had to get rid of it for $ reasons.:( Now I am looking to get back in the macro arena and am wondering if the Canon is worth the extra $100. It has USM focusing, but I never used it for macro work, and it would often hunt crazily for no apparent reason. But MAN was it a sharp lens!
Optically, the Tokina appears to at least be it's equal, if not better (hard to imagine that). I would appreciate any Tokina 100 macro owners thoughts on their lens.
Thanks.

I love mine. No need for a hood or anything, sharp, excellent build quality.
I liked the Canon macro idea, but it really does need a hood, would be nice to have a tripod collar on it, and at that point you might as well buy the Sigma 150 macro.

I used it on a N*kon for a while. It was a fantastic lens. The biggest issue I had with it was the focusing. It was sort of noisy and slow and the barrel extended when focusing in and out.

Build and optical quality was top notch though!

Had it, good lens. It extends as it AF's though.
If you can get it for a good deal, then I think it's a fine lens.
