I don't know off the top of my head, but it's mentioned a lot around here, a search will probably help you. Someone will show up soon and tell you anyway :)

hello TRUUCHA

This happens to me a lot. It probably means that your pop-up flash hit something on the way up. Mine always hits the brim of my tilley hat.

Hope this helps.

Read the manual of your 10D....

Error 99 means that there's something wrong, but the camera can't figure out exactly what's wrong. It can be any number of things. Some third party (i.e., non-Canon) lenses are not (fully) compatible with the 10D (or other Canon cameras) and might give you Error 99. It could also be a bad electrical connection between the lens and the camera, so you could try cleaning the electronic contacts on the lens and the camera. It could also be that there's something wrong with the electronics inside the camera.

As Tim says, do a search on these forums or with Google and you'll most likely find a lot of suggestions.

If nothing works, take your camera, lens(es) and other accessories to Canon and let them have a look at it.

I have had the problem a couple of times on a 10D and the problem each time was the lens. Cleaning the contacts didnt even work. The first time was a very old Canon lens that I had quit using and the second was on a used Sigma I purchased from B&H that I had to send back.

It is usually a communication error between camera and lens, camera and CF card, etc... Usually turning off the camera, removing lens and batteries for a few seconds fixes it, or formatting the CF card. Also, as mentioned clean all contacts.

Check out this thread on Err99
It's the troubleshoot Canon asked me to perform to determine the problem.
