Hello,

Love this site. I've been all over it learning. I'm a novice in all aspects of photography. Being a 1st time mother created in me a desire to capture these very sweet days through photographs. I purchased the Canon 10D when it first came out. I've used it approx. 1.5 yrs now w/ a 28-80mm lens that came w/ my ole 35mm Rebel 2000 kit. I also have the 75-300mm lens, which I rarely use. And a speedlite 200e, which I've never used w/ my 10D. I use the on-board flash.

Most pictures I take are candid and inside my house. I occasionally attempt poses. And occasionally take candid outdoor shots. All of my little sweetie of course.

Wanting to take better pictures is what led me to your site. I have reviewed this website and drawn some conclusions as to what I can do to improve my pics. What I'm looking for are "confirmations" that I have drawn "good conclusions". That will give me the confidence to know I will be making a logical purchase. Here it goes...

It appears my 10D camera is a good one and no upgrade is necessary here. Below is what I believe I should buy to accomplish what I mentioned above:

Lens Choice = Canon EF 50mm 1.4 USM

Light Choice =

(for candid shots)
1 Canon Speedlite 580EX w/ a softbox (for the candid shots)

i think you have WAY too much lighting for a 17' x 16' room... also, you are prob gonna find that the50mm lens while bright and sharp, it will be somewhat limiting as kids move a lot, and move fast. considering you will be shooting w/ a flash or strobes all the time, your apreture most likely wont be any more wide open then about f/8... id consider getting a canon 24-70 lens instead, you will find it to be more versatile

Mike greatly appreciate your reply. I would like to hear your lighting recommendation for my size room.
