Canon EF 70-400mm f/4L

Just thought I would start a rumor about a possibly amazing lens...
I know there is a 100-400mm f/5.6L lens already, but maybe Canon will follow in Sony's footsteps, only, beat them with an f/4 instead of f/4-f/5.6. Maybe even IS.

you do realize that the Canon 100-400 is a 4.5-5.6 lens and not a 5.6 lens right? and btw, if you look at the Nikon 200-400 F4 lens, you will realize that if Canon were to bring out a a constant F4 100-400, you will be looking at a 5k+ lens that weighs about 8-10 lbs...

The EF-400 F4 DO weights 4.3 pounds and costs $5,500. DO take a LOT of glass (e.g. weight) out of the lens setup, and this is a prime!
I can't imagine that a 400mm F4 zoom in the 70 or 100-400mm range could physically weigh LESS than about 6 pounds minimum.
But hey, maybe Canon's got something up their sleeves! I personally would love a EF-100-300 F4 zoom, or even a EF-150-400 F4, or EF-200-400 F4. I would gladly pay $2500 for a 150-400 F4 zoom.

I'd rather have a 200-500 5.6 L IS

its all very well dreaming about f4 zooms, but it'd be massive and heavy, so I wouldn't buy it. I'd love a little more reach with the up to date IS. Push-pull or twist I'm not too bothered.

Yes please! I requested this lens a few weeks ago to a local Canon Rep. She said it was a very doable lens! Let's hope she is right!
