Hello! I'm a newbie with an XSi. I've never really got into the finer aspects of photography, though I do have a gist of exposure & enjoy taking creative pictures. Now my question is what is one book you would recommend to me to start out with? Understanding Exposure or Learning to See Creatively, both by Bryan Peterson. Do you think developing better composition is important first...or exposure techniques?
I will be picking up either a 50mm, 1.4 or 1.8 soon, as people have recommended this for a novice...
Thanks!

Exposure first, if you can't do that nothing else will matter.

Get Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Great book and it explains things in a way that is easily understood.

The Owner's Manual. Learn the camera first like a soldier in bootcamp learns his weapon.
Then Understanding Exposure. Or even Scott Kelby's The Digital Photography Book, Vol. 1.

Understanding exposure was one of my first book, and it really helps. After that, I bought another book from Bryan Peterson : understanding shutter speed.... Just loved it

Speaking of manuals, I just got an Rebel xsi and I can not find the manual! I misplaced it already and it is no where to be seen! If you seen my situation now you would understand how easy that can be. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Sorry to ask this in your thread, I just thought a thread on something so small would kind of be a waste. If its a prob let me know and I will delete it.

This and the field guide/owners manual for your camera.
Before reading ANY books by authours, understand your camera inside out.
