This makes my third, 1st I'm posting here. These are local artist but this one is "BIG" and is well on his way. Several label are in a bidding war for him now.

For those interested you can download the Mixtape HERE (http://fakeshoredrive.com/2008/09/mixtape-mikkey-halsted-uncrowned-king.html) for free

I like it. Too many logos, but who can help that.

Great stuff. Simple and to the point.

You know, many designers get ultra creative on the covers, and artists put their own interpretations and ideas, and many times the end result at any music store (or Target of Walmart) is often chaotic, as most covers have at least 165 colors and streaks, there is barely nothing to identify it.

Back in the old days of the LP, I could understand the issue of design, specially from mid-60s (the death of singles and birth of LPs for popular music) up to the 80s and some 90s. Nowadays, the cover is much more of an identifying tool than a Selling factor (Yes, as a Kid I would buy an LP because the cover was cool), than just another artistic conception -such as any of the songs inside-. Not that there is no place for good creative covers, but lately other than classics (anyone can make out a WHO or QUEEN compilation), if you give yourself 120 seconds to find a Josh Groban, KT Tunstall, and Tom Petty CDs, you will have to heavily rely on the alphabetic sorting, and then spend quite a bit of time making sure.

Anyhow, sorry for the ramble. Just kept thinking on why I thought simple in many cases was better.

Cheers,

I know exactly what you mean, thats why I asked to be a part of the cover selection. He picked the photo, I agreed it was nice and only asked that my shot be left intact (no edits to shot unless I made them). He then sent me over 5 possible cover looks and asked which I liked best

The pic is nice... The graphics composition seems a bit cluttered... Maybe all of the logos should be on the back, or inside cover.
