Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a website that sells battery covers? Usually they come attached when you purchase a battery, but, this battery I just received doesn't have one attached and I have absolutely no idea where to begin looking. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows where these can be obtained, I'd certainly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance for any help you all can give.....Photodude25

If you keep the batteries away from anything they may short on, for instance on their own in a pocket of your camera bag, you won't even need the cover. I lost one of the covers from my spares and its never ben a problem.

Keep each battery in a zip-lock bag. Stops them contacting...and is cheap !

All the geniune Canon batteries come with covers, only some of the third party ones do, I have only lost one battery to a short, and a cover wouldn't have saved it from my leaky water bottle :(

I have been looking for them for a couple of years now. I can't find them. I tried to find a case that they would fit in but either the cases I found were just a bit to small or too big. The closest I came to were the plastic cases you can get to put your fishing flies into. But they were just a hair not deep enough to let me close the lid on two of them.

I've thought about calling the Canon parts store and ask if they had them (I bought the little rubber remote and PC covers for my D30 there) but haven't done so yet. Usually I just rubber band those without a cover back to back and then put the ones with covers facing in against them. I just ordered 6 more of the covers for $12 that come with a free battery that Tim mentioned... hopefully the free battery still comes with the $12 cover. :D

Both my 511's didn't come with a cover!
The one in camera box was just sitting there loose. I think it had just been used to make sure it works. Somehow managed to get 2 power cables however.
And bought a 2nd battery, which I asked for. Said it was US$106, but as I was stuffed around it was "only" US$70. I didn't know no better. So bought this non Canon battery. Only when getting home, and checked out prices of batteries which I had never done before, I found out Canon batteries should be around $60-70 here anyway!

For your first spare battery, this is not a problem - you use the cover off the orginal battery. For all others, a small plastic bag should be OK (but do you really need more than 2 )

Alan, for those of us that shoot a lot, yes, you need more than two batteries. There have been times when I have gone through all of my batteries during a day of shooting... over 1400 images outdoors and indoors needing a higher ISO, shooting RAW and using the 70-200 2.8 IS zoom or 100-400 4.5/5.6L IS a lot. Higher ISO and a zoom with IS eats up my batteries a lot faster than low ISO and less zooming. The generic batteries are cheap and I don't mind carring a bunch of spares. I carry 6 right now and my wife has a couple in her bag. I just ordered 6 more to replace the couple that no longer hold their charge as long as they did when they were new a couple of years ago. So yes, some of us do need a lot of spares.

1400 in a day ? How long does it take to process that lot ?

OK - point taken - you need more than 2 batteries !

Alan, if I convert all of those raw imagaes I usually start the process in BreezeBrowser and go to bed. :D

But since the 10D has embedded jpeg files, I just extract them, put those up on the web site and then only convert the ones that I will print or want higher resolution web images from. I don't always take that many shots in a day, usually I'll take that many in a weekend, but it's nice to have more battery power than I need with me so I don't have to find a plugin to charge them up on a shoot.

I just got 6 batteries from Sterling Tek and none of them had the covers. So they must have cut back on providing those with them. The batteries were each in a box and shrink wrapped though. And the 2 day Fed-X free shipping was a bonus. I did send e-mail to Canon and asked them if the covers were available through the parts store. The answer I got back didn't say yes, but it did say I could call and place a order at their parts store and gave me the number. This is it in case someone else has a chance to call them before I do:

When my 10D was my only digital,. I had 8 batteries...

I sold it with three of them and the grip,. so I now have six BP511 types for the 20D.

Maha Powerex come with a cover by the way,. but you can get very small zip locks for small parts like screws that are practically perfectly tailored for a BP511.

Are there any problems about ordering one of these for shipping to UK?

My friend did that, he had a battery in his pocket w/ his keys, and when he used his keys to unlock his doors, he ended up calling the lock smiths.. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gifhttp://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

That was so funny. And he couldnt understand why until he remembered that the battery was in his package.

I found a vender who actually sells covers for canon bp511 (and some other models which I presume are the same physical size for he cover). The vendor is Greenbatteries.com, and their price is about $2 each.

Since nobody mentioned this here, and I had looked here when looking for a cover, I thought I would enter the info here, for the record. You CAN buy the battery covers only at this location.
