Recently, I stumbled upon a tutorial on how to convert a zoom lens and a prime lens into a macro lens. It is really simple, mount the zoom lens as usual to the camera and then put the prime lens reversely to the front of the zoom lens. How you put the two lens together is up to you. I just used tapes.

Here's the tutorial. It's really fun.

Auto focusing work from time to time, but I recommend turning it off altogether. As for lighting, I just used a household 65W energy-saving light bulb as the main source. For the camera, I set the temperature manually to 2500 on the 40D body, mirror lock up, remote shutter release, live-view 10x magnify to get the best focus plane.

Good ones :)
There are at least 3 ways of achieving 1:1 magnifications or higher with normal non- macro lenses.
1. Reversing one lens onto the front of another as here.
2. Reversing a lens in the 30-50mm range directly on to the camera body.
3. Using extension tubes on a lens in the 30mm -70mm range.
