Hey all.

I have recently bought an EOS 300D and have found that when i try and connect the camera via ZoomBrowser EX or any of the other additional bundled software that came along with the driver, it informs me that there is no camera connected, however when I jacked the USB cable in the automated XP pop up with the run functions/associated applications popped up and when I explore My Computer the camera is there and I can browse through the files themselves, but my issue is that i need the Canon software to get the RAW files (to the best of my knowledge).

I have updated all of my drivers as well as the actual ZoomBrowser itself, and I even went as far as to associate the app to the camera when it's plugged in, but as soon as i try to connect the cam it says its not there. the manual mentions something about it needing to be in PC mode? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, because as you can well imagine it's a pain to have taken the time to capture all of these images and not be able to then do anything with them.

cheers.

Make life easier. Get a card reader.

Get a USB 2 high speed card reader, it'll be faster than the camera, and probably more reliable. I don't think i've ever plugged my camera into my PC, actually.

I agree with this others, get an USB 2.0 Hi-Speed CF card reader, it's cheap and works much faster than transferring images directly from the camera (provided your computer has USB 2.0 ports, but it most likely has if it's not older than about 2 years or so).

If you do want to transfer directly from the camera, look in the menu of the camera and make sure the "Communication" is set to "Normal" (and not "PTP") if you want to use ZoomBrowser EX. If that doesn't help, try another USB cable.

Thanks guys, the card reader is something i've already considered but in the meantime I'm going to have to settle with running it out of the camera. Jesper, particular thanks to you, I changed the transfer settings from PTP to normal and seems to be working!

Cheers.

Another thing to consider is that a card-reader won't help you if you want to run the camera tethered. I'm buying a USB 2.0 add-in card today so I can do that (my motherboard is old enough that the USB on it is 1.1).

Use the bundled EOS Viewer Utility (EVU). You might also look into DIM 4 (freeware).
