So I was taking some pictures of the damage of Tropical Storm Hanna for the local paper, and I notice this guy walking his dog.
I did some black and white convertion in PS Elements, and I added some heavy constrast to give it a solemn comic book style feel.
My question is, do you think the contrast takes away from the picture?? Im kind of sitting on the fence with how I feel.

High contrast here is ok, though the dog disappears since it is dark colored against a shadowed background. The tilt of the photo and cropping of the dog doesn't work for the photo either, but that's just me. Lots of potential with this scene though. Thanks for sharing, I hope you are ok there.

Yea, unfortunatly the crop i would have like wouldn't have worked, and the dog getting clipped was a part of that

It has potential, but I find the dog's darkness is the real problem. My eyes had trouble finding it, which isn't great when it's the focus of the shot. Nice capture though.

I am not so fond of the high contrast in this scene - or at least to the point that you illustrate. I agree about the cropping of the dog, but as you state - there isn't a thing you can do about it. I almost wish I could see the man's face in a grimace or a smile or something.....
though without your story, I wouldn't have guessed that this man walking his dog was that dramatic......

I love the picture. Hate the crop.
This couldve been something much more.

I can see the effect of the wind on the umbrella, and the dog struggling, but no sense of motion.......
So, it seems to need hard rain to go with it, to me.
Or, part of a building flying by in the background.
Something........
Very interesting capture, though.

i like the second picture better. i agree with the lack of motion. Even the tree branches are at believable angles.....
have you tried your contarst work on the second picture?
