canon 100- 400 is (best price in UK)

i am from the uk and looking for the best price on the above lense are there any other uk readers on this wonderfull forum
severall lenses on ebay but not to sure about import duty and gurantee
can someone help please

I've nearly saved up for one myself, so I'm tracking prices actively. Best new price I can find is £1039 from www.7dayshop.com. This includes 1 years Canon international warranty.

Alternatively, buy a copy of Amateur Photographer (every Tuesday) which is always loaded with adverts. You can pick up a M or E++ second hand one for £800 - £900 and that includes a warrenty. You can also track most second hand dealers stock via the web, seeing new stock well before it appears in the mag.

Occasionally there are bargains on eBay, but there's always a risk. Buying a new one on eBay shipped from Hong Kong may look cheap, but you've got to pay import duty. Not sure if it is the same as VAT, but if it is, 17.5% on top is a lot.

I've heard Chinese whispers about Canon announcing the successor to the 100-400mm L IS lens at Focus on Imaging, as this is their oldest L IS lens in there line up. Maybe you can let me know first hand.

I bought mine last summer from B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ which is in New York USA, after paying import duty I got it for £900 including a UV filter.

Ordered on a Tue and was here on Friday and could track it via UPS all the way. UPS in UK rang me up and explained the import duty which I then payed so goods could be released from customs.

I have bought lenses from http://www.warehouseexpress.com/ and are good, they have the 100 - 400 for £1099

What warrenty did you get with the lens? US or International? Note that the former may not be honoured by canon UK.

Got mine in December for £830 delivered..:D

It was from a guy on Ebay based in the USA, sending stuff to his mum in Scotland to post on to UK addresses.
He has good feedback, and I previously got a 550EX from one of his auctions.
Sent him a private email about the 100-400L, then call me brave or stupid, I sent him £830 direct via Paypal..............

He will quote for ANY Canon gear......

Canon warrenty on lenses is global unlike camera bodies which is country of purchace

Yes there is an international warranty on all Canon lenses. This is not hearsay, I have an email from Canon confirming it.

Duty on lens is I think 6.7%.

The sums work like this

Cost of item + duty+carriage , then 17.5% vat on all of this and then anything from £6 to £20 administration charge, this varies depending courier.

Lens £100
Duty £6.70
Carriage £10.00
Subtotal £116.70
VAT £19.07
Subtotal £135.77
Admin £10.00
Total Cost £145.77

Or if you are lucky you'll pay nothing extra.
