After taking over 50 pictures, I have one ok picture to show for for it. I'm still learning and this was taken in the auto mode :o ... but still, I thought I'd share. Only processing done was cropping of the leaf and resizing the image to fit the guidelines poted here.

i think you got the exposure right which is what makes the shot.
pictures seem to sharpen up and leap out more when the exposure is spot on.

Nice details on left side, however right side is a bit out of focus (unless it was intentional), you can try closing down the aperture furhter to get a better DOF may be ...
I like the shot, has very solid color in it :-)

The lost focus on the right wascertainly not intentional :o . The more I look at that picture, the more I find problems with it.
Appreciate your opinions ! :)

Sid, I am a newbie with a rebel also and I know what you mean about taking a lot of shots and not liking them. I have found that I am too critical of my photos because I see so many great ones on here. I am trying to balance the learning with enjoying the hobby. If you pick every photo to death you will not enjoy them. If you like it and enjoy the image that is what matters. Not to say we shouldnt learn and try to improve but stop and smell the flowers along the way.

You're starting to learn your camera eh? Take it step by step. For that leaf you really need a smaller aperture, maybe F16, which might mean you need more light, or at least a tripod. Once you can use the camera, then it's time to work on composition.

I totally agree with you ! I'm really enjoying the learning process but at the same time it's a little frustrating too. I drove a 100 miles this weekend just to take pictures of what I had heard was a good location to do so and ended up getting maybe one or two good picture. But, I learned a lot about shutter speeds and aperture just from the messed up pictures.
I was driving along country roads and just looking out the car window, I could see so many possibilities. Now if only I could figure out how to get that emotion into a picture. :)
