Something simple that I put together for the couple for their wedding day, I am thinking of blowing this up to 16x20 and framing it for them... what do you think? Any C&C welcome.

Semi-final VERSION: As per some helping critique below, I came up with this as my final version. Damn lab already printed the above, so I have to reprint, waste of $20 but I think its a better picture this one below. Any more CC before I go to the printer tomorrow afternoon???

I think it would probably be well received by the couple.

Only thing I notice is her toes peeking out under the strip of photos accross the bottom. Maybe move the strip to the bottom edge or lay black all around that's that width. Covers the toes and adds an internal border in one go.

I'll second the toes comment... but otherwise I think this would make a lovely print.

I also agree on the toe comment. But I think they will love it.

I'm sure they will be over the moon.

A couple of things.

The photoshoping needs to be spot on if your going to print it that size. The added background blur needs to be done really well else you'll see it a mile away. Its easy to see above so your going to have to put the time in before going to print.

Personally i would have the bottom left image (with a little cropped off the top and right )as the main picture and have the other images going top to bottom on the left.

Like i said i sure they will love it.

Need just a bit more head room for the frame, but otherwise they will love it.

I totally agree that the strip should be on the left side and vertical. As it is, the strip is cutting them at the knees and the toe thing is just odd feeling...

I tried it vertical and it looks even more weird. As if there is no balance in the frame. As for the toes, I moved the frame all the way lower for the final print, and took back the amatuerish blur in the background.

Thanks everyone for your help!

hey man... instead of going for black and white... maybe try some type of selective colour for the image... there are some very contrasting colour pastells in the insert pics...

to tone it down from those focal points the selective colour might work// go for a slight blue...

hope this (confuses) helps...

put the inlays in a top to bottom black strip or maybe even red using the red from her dress(new layer) and reduce the opacity so just a little of the background image shows through.

IF you haven't sent to the printer yet, you might consider separating the two vertical images slightly and switching them left to right. I don't know about everyone else, but two separate and distinct images butted right up against one other takes something away from each of them. And the wall coming down from the left that is cut off right in the middle of the photo on the right hand side almost makes it look like it is falling on them.

I think putting a small gap between them and switching them allows them to each stand on it's own, and doesn't leave a viewer wondering what that wall is all about... in fact, switch them and the wall helps to define the separate photo.

The Second version however, is WAY better than the first! Good work.

You've got a great (and much improved) end product that you and your clients should be very happy with.

Maybe you could do something different that you'd be happier with, or maybe in a few months you'd have what you think are better ideas. For now, these look great, and you are much more critical of your work than your clients will be.

Glad to help and hope to see more from you soon!

Was the OP the official wedding photographer? Do people put framed photos of themselves up on their wall? All I ever see in people houses might be a framed 8x10 (no matte) not on a wall of their wedding day.

Giving someone a frame photograph is something to do with caution. If they don't like the photo and you are a close friend/family they may put it on a wall in the least seen part of their home. And maybe only for a little while and then take it down if they don't like it.

Liking photography, like any art, is very subjective and varies from person to person. What you like might no be what the wedding couple likes. I would recommend not giving such a large framed piece of them to them. Good luck.

HappySnapper90 - What you say is so true... But it also goes both ways. I have a client who absolutely LOVE a photo I took of them and have asked me to have it printed on canvas and framed to put in their living room.

I personally like the photo, but it's NOT the best of the bunch in my opinion. If I were to pick one to put on a wall as a 16 x 20 or 20x30, it would not be the one they chose. BUT... They are paying for it, not me. They will have to look at it every day, not me.

you guys are right.. from an artistic perspective, I have SOO much better looking pictures of them.. but they picked this... wanted this framed with the smaller pictures INSIDE it. Everyone has their own tastes.. I am not going to instill mine in them neither am I going to consider their tastes mine... hence I asked others to help as well... because its really hard to make something good... when you sit there and think.. "hmm, this is pretty blah"

This picture is not a gift to them, its something THEY wanted. There is somewhat a tradition in my community where they like to put a framed picture of them in the entrance of the reception hall on an easel. either that or they go all out and get large canvas strips with their pictures printed on it (extravagant, I know).

They saw it, they liked it, and they will be putting it on the hall entrance on the day of reception..

I personally think it was a photographers idea, because you get at least ONE person complimenting the photographer and asking for rates on the spot,,

lol

^^^ HOW TRUE!! ^^^

Then again, that is EXACTLY why I offered to give a guest book to the couple whose wedding I am shooting next week. I used photos from their engagement shoot. The bride LOVES it, in fact her only comment was, "I hope people don't admire the photos so much they don't sign the book!"

I never thought of a poster! What a great idea!

I may try to get that "tradition" started around here... That's another $100 sale!

By the way, I think your third iteration looks great. You incorporated the ideas given to you by three or four different sources and while your first pass looked good, the final product looks very nice.

I too come here for inspiration and advice.

The final version (3rd) is really sharp in my opinion. The top-bottom strip behind the pics helps to set them aside from the main image. Nice job and I like that idea to get more attention to your business!
