Newbie trying to take some soccer photos this weekend of my niece's team. 70-200 2.8 lens. Caught the attention of another spectator that had a Sony kit. He followed me around and asked lots of questions...that I was unqualified to answer. Did I mention being a newbie myself

No PP done, just a quick crop

#3 - probably needs a tighter crop on right side of image

#4 - badly OOF. Too bad I had a good (blurry) series of this collision

Nice, I think a little sharpening is in order.

I think a boosting in shutter speed was in order. Don't be afraid of F2.8 and ISO 800.

Also use Custom Function 04 and set to 1. This will allow you to focus with the * button on your camera. Sometimes that 1/2 press shutter thing screws your focus when you actually take the shot.

This I need to check into. Thanks for the tip

I think ss is already high enough for the action, no point in moving to ISO800. AF seems to be OFF. How were you doing the AF?

Centre Point - pressing the shutter half way. Generally the focus was on mid body.

I was also usinga 1.4x teleconverter

Nice timing on all of the set. +1 on the CF 4. I read it here on POTN about 2 months ago and wish I'd know about it since I bought my 40D.

That's it.

Whatever anyone else says, picture quality and AF suffers with 1.4xTC particularly with zooms.

Okay, I need to learn this. I will have to read up on it here. Now that soccer is over, does it also apply for hockey?

Thanks for the advice. Time to get a new lens for soccer or shoot less of the field
