I've gotten back into photography after a long hiatus. Recently I've shot a couple of weddings digitally as favors for relatives and now have been asked to do a couple more which I'll get paid for. I've sent away for brochures from various album suppliers and a few sent back information on Digital Albums. As I said I've been out of the loop for a while and the brochures give the appearance of being an actual "hands on" physical photo album. From what investigating I've done on the internet it seems that the digital album is basically PC based and can only be viewed on a PC. Can someone afford me a little clarification as to what a digital album is really comprised of and formats it can be viewed in.

I have been producing digital slide shows in VCD, SVCD, and DVD formats which can be played back on a TV as well as a PC. Is there any similiarity here?

"Digital Album" isn't a term i'm familiar with. Can you list specific software titles? The only other thing that comes to mind is a stand alone device about the size of a photo album but with an LCD screen and some memory that can display pictures. I've never heard of something like that though.

I'm curious about this too. Just because I've read about them in wedding photography books. I still haven't understood if it's a software that shows the real album's layout easily for the couple, or if it's only to be viewed on a PC/similar. Curious.

This is one for example that I recieved a brochure on. Which is software a bit more expensive than my budget will allow. This is similiar to some other packages I have seen.

Some of the templates as large as 29"x14.5". This leads me to believe this will end up in an actual physical print of sorts. Which if printed that large, then what do I do with it?

The more I'm digging into this, it seems the term Digital Album is used rather loosely. I found one that is displayed on screen (PC) that simulates turning pages of an album. Another was set up to display an album through a web browser.
