Sorry! But I've been asked to photograph my Uncles wedding, its his second so he's said he has no expectations, just some snap shots will be fine, but he know's I need the pics for my portfolio so he asked me to be official :)

I've got my canon 400D and a kit 18-55mm and a 50 1.8, I've also got a Metz fash! I'm confident in my ability but not so much the equipment ...

A new camera is out of the question, but atleast I know it and not one of these people who are equipment dependent :) I've got a friend second shooting so have a back-up!

My main question is; What lens should I get ... got about £300 to spend, about $600? So thinking of either the Sigma 30 f/1.4 (thinking for the dance shots and the ceremony) or the 85mm 1.8?

Please don't start flaming me for doing a wedding, and I know how important it is ... but it's his second wedding, they aren't even having a wedding, it's mainly for my conveinience :)

Also, they're an older couple any cool poses you can think of that are a bit fun, but for older couples (mid 50's)?

Thanks for any input guys :D

I don't think you need anything really. If you want a new toy get the 30 F1.4, 85 is pretty long. If you get the 30 F1.4 leave some extra time for it to be sent to Sigma to be calibrated, a lot of them need to have that done.

I photograph older couples the same way I photograph younger couples, just with less sharpening in PP. Example here (http://www.wildphotography.co.nz/blog/?p=31).

You didn't post in the wedding area...

30 1.4 is meant to be good. The copy I borrowed wasn't calibrated so it wasn't very good.

I think a good zoom lens with f/2.8 aperture. My Sigma 24-60 was only $300 (after duty/shipping.. got it from amazon.com) it worked great for the wedding I did. You'd have money left over you could also get a cheaper prime as well.

TBH, I'm hoping to build a Prime only arsenal, with just a 70-200 2.8 IS in the future, so thanks for your suggestion but I'd like to stick with primes for the minute!

Looks like a Sigma 30 1.4 and a 580ex is going to do it then :D
