View Full Version : Really stupid question

I tried to get help from my hosting company and they had no idea what I was asking. I tried to look at the Mysql website for help. I also looked through the posts on this forum with the hope that someone had already asked this question. So now I guess I'll have to ask it.

I'm new to this whole website thing as well as Mysql. I figured out how to get a site made (using Fusion7) and onto the web. I've got 200 meg of web space and 100 meg of Mysql space. The hosting company said that they have the lastest versions of PHP, Mysql and it's on an Apache server. My web space is on a virtual server, I hope that this will work with EE.

I have a Mysql account setup and I've completed the first 3 instructions of the EE install procedure. Now for the stupid question, how do I do 4 and 5?

I suppose you refer to http://photography-on-the.net/ee/install.php (1.3RC can not be installed on its own, it is update to 1.22)

Upload is done with FTP program, e.g. with any app from
http://freeware.intrastar.net/ftp.htm

Running setup is done just by entering the URL to a browser's address line and pressing enter. Basically setup.php is a web application you run like any other web page.

Yes. The full install 1.22.

I uploaded it to my site and put into a folder called gallery.

I typed in the address window, www.mywebsite.com/gallery/setup.php. I also tried making a temp page with a link to that file and then clicked on the link. All I get is page cannot be found.

Got it to install!!!!!!!!!!!!

It reported no errors. Now I've got to go see how to use it.

BTW, I moved the gallery folder to the HTML directory and then it worked. Thanks Pekka for letting me know that I was on the right track. As with most things, it turned out to be something really simple (once you figure it out).

Also, I've got no problem sending you some dough if this turns out to be something that I can use. Thank you for making it available along with LS.
