Personally, I liek the first one better.. there's something about the color tint that just doesn't sit well with me, but I can't put my finger on it...
as for impressions, I dunno... I look at it and I see 3 guys in an alley... kind of a back street do-wop kinda feel...

I also like the first one better.

#1 does it for me.
I think the BW is great for adding feeling to the looks on their faces, the "dont mess with us" look.
#2 when I first saw it my instant reaction was its a photo from a newspaper that has been sitting in the sun too long... and has gone yellow... Sorry BlooDog.

I like #1. Don't like #2. Doesn't remind me at all of '50's jazz albums.
Impressions?
I wouldn't buy a CD with a cover like this. :p
What are these guys about?
Let's not go there.
That's what you get for asking an old geezer like me. :)

The gritty B&W works best of the two IMHO.. Nice and gritty street-life kind of feel.
however, that said, the blue cover MIGHT work without the graininess, but doesn't seem to work together with it. It might be worth a shot trying it "blued" with perhaps a tad less color, no grain, and some more contrast.. (similar to Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, although that really wasn't duo-color). Other possibilities that come to mind might be losing the blue in the heads, leaving it the remainder of the pic..
Then again, I could be wrong ;) but I steadfastly remain a geezer.

#1.... The color in #2 just doesn't seem right for the photo.

Excellent, Bloo.
FWIW, I looked at the first treatment and thought, "Rappers."
I looked at the second one and thought, "Blues Singers."
Really. the B&W works. The other one doesn't unless it's in some context that's not obvious just looking at the photo.

I can out-geezer you any day. I'm so old that I don't buy green bananas anymore.
You don't remember Coltrane's "Blue Train" album, and Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue?" and Sonny Rollins did a BUNCH of albums in two-color packages. There's another really famous Wes Montgomery album whose name i can't remember. "West Coast Blues"? Prestige and ABC records issued a lot of very cheap two-color album covers. I should have saved the album covers before I ditched my vinyl collection for CD's. Coltrane isn't even available on Atlantic. All of his Atlantic master tapes were destroyed in a fire!
You don't like those rapper guys? Heh.
You wouldn't buy their album? Heh.
Neither would I. Heh. Not my favorite genre of "music."
Okay. I'm happy now. There are two self-proclaimed geezers on the board. We need to identify ourselves and quit being such a secret society.
BEAR YOUR AARP card proudly!
Funny, I was listening to Miles' "Porgy and Bess" when I responded earlier. It does have a blue border but not a blue tint. Jimmy Smith is on right now. I've got about a dozen Wes albums home - I'll look for the bloo ones. WHAT!! You ditched your vinyl!!  I'm still buying vinyl. :) I love going in the Goodwill Superstore and finding a couple dozen $1 albums. Space is a huge problem, though.
