G'day,
Just wanted to confirm that the RC-1 and RC-5 are NOT compatible with the 40D.
Correct?

The 40D does not have the infra-red receiver that the Rebel series has. Any remote for the 40D will need to either be a cable release, or it will need a receiver in the kit.

This is the ONLY feature that the Rebel series cameras have that I wish Canon had included on the 30D-40D-50D cameras.
I used this quite often when I shot with the Rebel. However, the plethora of features of the xxD cameras, far outweigh the minor loss of an IR receiver.
I have just purchased, but have not as yet received, this cordless remote for my 40D.

The price of this Chinese unit is certainly very low...

Of course, the benefit with the radio or cable remote releases is that they will work even from behind the camera.
I also found THIS (http://cline-company.com/blog/?p=20) website, detailing how to make your own cable release. It says it will work on Canon dSLR cameras, but I've got no idea if it will. Plus side is that it will be very cheap and you can make the cable as long as you like.
But if you make it and fry your camera, don't yell at me.

You'd better check Canon usa, there is no Chinese version of 40D at all.

I got the Yong Nuo Digital remote for my 20D. Had to order from Hong Kong. It took about 2 weeks to come, but I have NO complaints. It will also lock for the buld feature so you have have extended exposures.
