View Full Version : Yet another pricing question - UK

I have been asked to provide 4 10x8s of four different models for one client. This will involve travelling to the site (a shop), setting up, shooting the photos there, presenting say, 1/2 dozen proofs and final printing up and delivering unframed photos. The photos have to be head & shoulders so, a prescribed format and not too much fiddling about.
I want the work, but charging say £15.00 per 10x8 (I doubt there will be any requests for reprints/extras) seems not to reflect the work involved. If I estimate 3hrs just to attend the shoot, to get a half decent "hourly rate" would mean charging double. That would mean a 10x8 costs £30.00.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Martin

You need to charge for the work done. I charge £40/hr plus £16 per 10by8 print. Your time will start as you leave the house and end when you get home. Dont be afraid of charging properley for your work I have always found the more you charge for your work the happier people are with it. Be confident in your ability and charge the right amount for it!!!

I would certainly charge for your time first then charge extra for any prints. I.e. an hourly rate and then a fixed cost per print. This seems to be how everyone else does it.

Don't forget your post processing time. I imagine that it's pretty unlikely that you'll take the images straight out of the camera and print them.

Thanks for your help there. I think I'm going to go cheap because I want the work, but not too cheap, cos I want the money (Canon Kit beckons continuously). I reckon 3hrs for the shoot, 2hrs processing + admin, probably half Stemmy's rate then a reasonable price for each print. I'll probably offer half a dozen proofs of each model for the client to choose. This is early days so the work is valuable too.
Thanks for you help
