I've applied an orton(slide sandwich - one in focus, one out of focus) effect via Photoshop.
Any thoughts?

Doing that can give a great halo effect, but I think you need to tune it down a bunch and only apply to certain areas of the image. You could have a great image there but at the moment it looks like you got a bit heavy handed in photoshop.
Incidentally, did you take two images or just use a Gaussian blur?

I have to admit I like it like this, however I posted it so as to get some outside feedback on this type of thing.
As stated in my original post the effect was done with Photoshop. When I first did it I thought it matched pretty closely the type of effect I'd seen done with actual slide sandwiches of a sharp image and an out of focus image of the same subject.
In looking a bit closer after reading your feedback I'm thinking I'll give it a go with less effect on the grass. I do like the full effect on the headstone.
It's a gaussian blur with an overlay(if I recall correctly) blending mode.
Thanks for commenting!

I like this a lot. Is there a tutorial for this? I am just beginning to get the hang of photoshop 6.0.
Yeah. This is really great. Not quite over the top, but close. I like the complementary colors: grassy green vs cyan. Edgy.
Nice work.
Well, different strokes for different folks I guess.:)
Here's a link to a tutorial: http://www.pdpc.ca/orton.htm
Have fun!
