Was messing around with my camera, a pair of my husband's shoes, and a laser pointer the other night. Here's the result:

That is really cool!

Not only did you get a remarkable photo, you probably killed off a bunch of microscopic critters that were living in your husband's shoes.

Very original.

How long was the exposure? Neat pic!

Thanks! I left the shutter open on bulb with a remote cable for as long as it took to trace the shoes. The metadata shows 117 seconds.

Wow, how did you get them to hold still for so long?

What type of camera? - not familiar with the bulb shutter hold/release

I'm usually not a fan of most of the artistic attempts people post to this site, but this is definitely cool. Excellent job!

Thanks, hawger! Or do you prefer dawger? :)

Geee, I used a Canon DRebel. I set the ISO at 100, and the room was completely dark. Bulb is the setting that you use to hold the shutter open indefinitely. You can use the remote cable to press and release the shutter control button, or press and lock it open. I used that locking feature to hold the shutter open, stepped over to the shoes, and traced the laces with the laser pointer. When I was done, I pressed the button on the cable again to close the shutter.
