Hi people I'm hearing some people say how happy they are about it and a desturbing amount of people that are having the problems with fit/flex and it indicating low charge. So what Id like to see is the percent of people that have bought it that have had problems. Also what are your opinions on Canon doing anything about fixing this as in redisigning it? Or do you think they will just leave it and attend to this next time around when making a grip for the 30D or whatever comes out next. I want this item, if it comes out not to many of you are having problems I will have to go to the store and test the fit part for myself. Thanks

Or right as for flex problems, largest lens I will have is the 70-200 2.8 IS with maybe the od rental of a 100 -400

I voted for the first answer but it is not that bad! I get a low battery reading from freshly charged batteries but I know that I can get 1000 pics minimum so who cares! I have not had the flex/connection problems just the low battery thing.

No problems with my 20D grip here, other than the weird battery readings on the camera which is not really a big deal since the battery life with dual batteries is around 2,000 shots.

I fall into the: Yes it sucks but I cant live without a grip category, although I wish I wasn't in that category. :(

No problems at all.

I have found mine to be loose on several occasions, and I just tighten it up with my thumb - no big deal. It has become a reflex when I pick up the camera. My biggest concern is that the thumbwheel cracks or breaks from repeated tightening. This has been noted a couple of times, as recently as today.

I don't understand how it keeps loosening up unless the bag slapping against my hip as I walk (with the camera in the bag) causes flex. I may add a drop of Loc-Tite to the threads on the grip to try and keep it snug.

Have Fun,

When I first bought it I had the battery problem but at the time I didnt know there was a problem with the grip so I just thought it was my batteries even though they were OK in my 10D.
Since then Ive not had any problems with it at all, Ive got a 70-200 f2.8 IS and a 100-400 IS and neither of those cause the grip to loose contact.

No problems.

I will say that I did like the 10D grip better however. Much better fit to the camera body IMHO.

One nice feature about the 20D grip is the ability to use AA batteries with it if my Canon bricks die, and I am no where near my car or some other place to charge them.

I had the flex problem, though you have to pull on the thing to get it to disconnect. However it's very easy to fix by putting a thin wedge of material (I used black gaffer tape) on the grip at the end furthest from the part that goes into the body's battery chamber. Took a couple of mins, seems like a permanent fix and costs nothing ;-)

Since then, only the battery indicator, which I ignore and carry a spare (not in the grip, of course, otherwise you wouldn't know the power left in either battery!)

After 30 years of buying camera gear, I guess I don't expect anything to work perfectly without some hacking.

You need to edit the poll for people who do not have the grip and just want to see the results or your numbers will be way off.

no problem here. Not once did it come loose or turn itself off.

However, there is a "little" play with it, when you are wiggling the battery pack.

Battery indicator problems. I don't find it all that great an add-on, although if it were easier to switch between with and without grip, I'd be much happier with it - comparing it to the Elan 7 grip, the Elan's grip is vastly superior for swapping on and off to meet immediate needs. I don't see any reason that Canon couldn't have made the 20D's grip that way. No flexing problems so far, but in general, I wouldn't put the camera on a grip on a tripod.

I've had no problems, and never have noticed the "flex" problem.

No problems noted - no flex, battery indicator seems to work fine.

No problems, but yes you do have to tighten the piss out of it.
