Id like to first say the reason im posting this in the rumor part is exactly that, its a rumor so far. I only heard from a local camera shop owner.
I asked if he heard the specs on the new g10, he said yea, there wont be one. canon is stopping the g series. He heard because he was talking to his vendors about ordering them or ordering a demo model.
His also been to a few conventions talking to canon reps saying about the same thing.
so this is in a sense is "i heard from a guy that heard from a guy."
Then i said, well im glad i still got my g9, he said yea, but its discontinued.
although it doesnt make it true, this isnt the first time this has been mentioned about no g10.
Well going on he mentioned canon did the same thing with another of the g series, then the new one came out.
Then going on chatting, he said canon is good at doing this, creating hype and chat, and BAM there big surprise.

I think the G-series will remain, but I've got to think that Pro2 should be in the works also.

"Why not just make 10 louder?"
"But, it goes to 11."

G9 is listed as discontinued on B&H's site. This part of the story looks to be true.

New G series, whatever the model name is (but I heard g-10) is going to release at photokina.

There already has been a very obvious leak of the G-10. Popphoto.com posted a whole preview page with all of the specs listed and then they took it down -- they obviously mixed up the release dates thinking the G-10 was going out at the same time as the 50D. I'm sure you'll see the G-10 in the next few days.

Summary: G-10 is already confirmed. Google cached the page: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Apopphoto.com+g10

EDIT: too funny, if you look at the URL of the page cached above, it is stage.popphoto.com -- Google is caching their staging site. They need to hire some new web monkeys.

I read those specs to just before i went to pick up a new Gnd filter from the store. Thats why i asked the owner to maybe try and confirm it.
like i said, its "i heard from a guy that heard from a guy."
Rumors fly, it catches a buzz and gets peoples attention i guess all this sums up to be.

There are rumours and then there are leaks. This was a leak. The press outlets like PopPhoto and DPReview all know what is coming out -- they've known for weeks -- that way they can publish their preview at the same time Canon puts out the press release. PopPhoto screwed up and published early... I'd say that is a solid source for the stats above... more than just a rumour.

Maybe Canon doesn't want to have double digit in the model name:?::?::?:
I guess it's bye bye G and hello H ???
