Ok, I'm a total amateur trying to get off auto mode. My friend wanted me to take a family portrait and I forgot to adjust the ISO. :o Well it was at 1000 and it was completely grainy..they were taken outside. What can I do to them to degrain them. Is it possible? I tried to remove the noise but it doesn't look much better.
Anyone have any suggestions other than reshooting them.

Posting up the shot may get some idea of how bad it is.
An option may be to make it a B&W photo with the grain.

You need to run a noise reduction and some noise reduction program is better than others.
If it's really noisy, then you don't have much option except to make the noise less irritating like turning the image to b/w where noise becomes more of a "grain" and artisitic. :)
Good luck.
