I'm wanting to ditch the tripod for some light stands instead. problem is, i dont want to waste a 3 digit amount per stand if i dont have to.
i have a 430ex and 580ex will be coming this winter with new upgrades to gear.
Id like to keep the price to about $35-50 for the lightstand, a swivel head in that cost would be great.
just sometihng simple but strong and reliable enough to attach a 430 or 580 without worrying.
there wont be any umbrellas or softboxes attached, just the flash and a skyport trigger ontop
i was thinking 2 of these http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/253074-REG/Impact_LS_8A_Air_Cushioned_Light_Stand_.html
with 2 of these heads

those are the stands I use for my 580EX and Promaster 7000 and they even support a soft box and umbrella but I have these (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/42160-REG/Photoflex_AC_BSWCP_Multiclamp_with_Shoe_Mount.html ) brackets

I just got two of THESE (http://www.cowboystudio.com/product/3359/Two-New-Heavy-Duty-Air-Cushioned-Light-Stands-W806_130382.html)
For the price, I was very impressed when I opened the box. He is local to me but he does ship nationwide.

just purchased that and 2 umbrella swivel heads, came out to $82 total.
pretty good deal i think, my tripod was $25 and i feel scared leaving a 70-200f4 and gripped 350D on it, its exactly stable, you can feel the whole thing flex and move

You might as well get the kit, for the same price you'll get two umbrellas as well. Might not need them, but they'll be essentially free.

Just remember that for normal use the umbrella and the flash are each facing the wrong way in the first Cowboy illustration!

Thanks for posting this. I've been searching for a portable stand for my 580 and 430 that has good height yet is very light.
