Is buying a used flash a scary deal?

I will buy a used prime, most of mine have been, a used zoom is a little scarier but I have done it with relative confidence, a used body is usually such a good deal any fear is offset by savings. But a used flash? I wonder about the life of a flash emitter and the capacitors and such. Any advice?

To me, buying a used flash would be the least risky of all the things you mentioned. It's either going to work, or it isn't, and you can find out as soon as you receive it.
