I have just been given two very nice tripod heads, one ball and one 3-way. No make on them but they are both very smooth and well built. The person they came from said his father ran a precision engineering firm so we think they may be "home-made".
The only problem is they don't have quick release, does any one know of anything I can buy that will fix on top to add quick release facilities. Preferably Uk supplier.
Thanks

Try SpeedGraphic in Hampshire for a Manfrotto setup that uses the 200PL14 plates.
Reasonable cost and easy used.
Alternatively drop me a line at greg.newby@virgin.net and I'll flog you a plate and holder just like the above. If I threw it hard enough it might just make it across the Mersey to you - I'm in Liverpool.
Cheers Greg

You can thread something like this directly on to the stock threaded camera mount.

I got a quick release clamp from Acratech to convert my Manfrotto ball head so that I could use the release plates that are standard for many brands such as Acra Swiss, Kirk, Really Right Stuff and Acratech.

I chose the one with the detent pin that prevents the release plate from sliding out if the clamp comes loose by mistake. That has saved my camera and telephoto lens from at least one tumble to the ground when I moved my tripod and had not tightened the clamp.

Thanks for your quick replies. You have solved the problem for me, I'll be getting a couple of the Manfrotto 323/ Bogon RC2 and and extra plate or 2.
Cheers

Try Verbon, they have quick release adapter for other brand's tripod.
