Hi all...

Here are some photos from the Fuchs Australian Nationals held at Western Sydney Intl. Dragway in Sydney over the weekend!

The event was unfortunately postponed late (11pm) on Sat night due to a fueller going deep into braking area under power, proceeding through the sand trap, busting through the catch wire and ending up in the tyre wall.
Sunday brought a new catch wire and also brought the rain with it and saw the meeting cancelled.

Here's some photos!

Looks like the guy in #2 has a bit of a problem! Shots 3 and 5 are my favorites, but all of them are excellent.

Excellent photos, I was at this event too. That final crash was spectacular :O

Anyway, these are some damn fine photos, I'd love to be able to get shots like these... Especially the first shot, thats only a Top Alcohol and you got header flames :O That is absolutely perfect timing on your part, and fantastic composition to catch it!

Stressball... it's not a header flame, it's raw fuel :D

Look great, thank you for sharing.

What kind of off camera strobe setup do you use? What's your max sync speed w/ that setup??

Sorry for all the questions, just like to hear what's required to get shots like that. My first year on the starting line, I've only had to opportunity to take 4 exposures total of any top fuel/nitro this year, had one come out OK :)

Thanks for the kind comments guys!! :)

1/300 is the max sync with my 1d3 and 580ex2's.. but i shoot around 1/125 - 1/200 for these head on shots.

What settings is a bit hard to answer as there's no right answer unfortunately :)

Some great shots there. Good focus. Good exposure. Lots of fire. The only thing missing is huge amounts of tire smoke, but for that we'd have to go back to the 60's.
