Hi Everyone,

Anyone have any input on the following Polarizer filters. I’m on a limited budget and only a fleeting want not need for a Polarizer filter. I use a UV haze filter on my 50 mm 1.4 USM with a hood now. Can I use and adjust the Polarizer with the hood? Are they easy to put on and take off with the hood as well as easy to use, or must I remove the hood to install and or use.

Sunpak I know is cheap, what about Tiffen? Which is better, suited for a newbee

I will be ordering a RC-1 Wireless Remote Control from B&H tomorrow and would appreciate your input on the following filters.

Sunpak 58mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter $ 29.95

Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter Item New $ 36.95 / Used $ 28.00 condition: 10

Thanks in advance for your help.

Its kinda of hard to turn the polarizer with hood on. There isn't any need to have the hood on with the polarizer though. Because you will be shooting 90 degrees from the sun.

I personally have Hoya Ultra 58mm UV-PL-CIR to use with my 50mm f/1.4

I'd go with the Tiffen over the Sunpak.

And you won't always be shooting 90-degrees to the sun. The polarizer is most effective at this angle, but you don't always have the choice and you don't always want to use max polarization. I would plan on leaving the hood off - block the sun with your hand or a hat or if neither are possible then put the hood back on (as a last resort) after you have the polarizer situated.

If you can reach your haze filter with the hood you should be able to reach and rotate the Polarizer.

I've had many good photos with barrowed no name polarizers. I'd buy the one you feel most confortable affording. I think you would be fine with a Sunpack. I just ordered one for a new lens I have coming this week.

If you''re like me it's sometimes on lens, 99% in bag filter I think you'll be ok with a Sunpack, Tiffen, Cir. Pol. Filter.

You might want to ask in the market place someone may want to sell you one of theirs they don't use.

Tiffen is nice, and I have bought more than a few of them over the years, but I think Hoya offers much better quality for a few more Dollars. Also, a Polarizing filter can be useful under less than optimal conditions of shooting angle relative to the light source. A hood can also help. I always use my hand to shield the front lens element from the sun, but there are cheap hoods available that can screw into your Polarizing filter, and can be used as grip to adjust the effect.

Just a thought...
