Needless to say the lighting was less than ideal.

These are as good - as excellent - as any pictures I have seen in Rolling Stone. You capture the heat and fire of the band - and the low light and blurry effects work real well. James

Good mood catch! I must say, that for the first shots I am happy that photos come without sound...

I absolutely love the last-but-one shot: The guitarist lost his head in the course of action. It so much shows how a guitarist feels when he is in his act. (I know) SUPER!

Thanks for the responses guys! I was kinda torn on my opinions of some of those, but I really appreciate the good words. I think I might be getting this photography thing :)

Awesome shots...

The 3rd and 7th shots are the best.... The blur affect on the guy is incredible and in the 7th shot the compostion is just perfect.

It's actually just the kit lens. I used everything from 200-1600 iso on the different shots. Most of them were around 1/5th of a second and 3.5-4.5 fstop. There was next to no light, so I had to make do.

Yeah these are really good. The "pros" struggle to get good gig shots - it's a nightmare because flash will freeze motion but lose colour and mood - and bands are always moving so it's hard to get a good pic etc - and you've managed to get loads of shots where the motion, colour and blur add up to give great atmosphere and mood. These are very good indeed, nothing really wrong with them at all. Nice!

Wow, just for that this post should be mandatory reading!

I love the third shot! It gives a visual feeling of the vocals and accentuates the look of him screaming! Awesome shots.

If you want good blur effects. DONT FORGET ABOUT THE DRUMMER. Why dose everybody forget about us!?:(

What do you call a guy that hangs out with musicians, ALL THE TIME?

A drummer.

Just kidding, fellow drummer. My question is, when they do take shots of the drummer, why are they afraid to take them from behind? That is the best perspective for showing what they are doing. So often you see drummers that look they are impaled by cymbal hardware, or better: they have "head sprouting out the rack tom" disease.

Seriously, these are great shots. I like the isolation you got with the subjects. I have some similar shots here: http://plan-b.smugmug.com/gallery/364892/3/14549882. Nice work.

How do you know when the drum riser is level?

Drool comes out both sides of the drummer's mouth.

But seriously, folks...

I posted some band pics in another area. This is one of those "motion" shots:

This type of photo was a specific request by the band. Normally, I'm not a fan of these shots but, when they work, they work...
