Howdy,
I have a Cannon A590IS and was wondering if it possible to view an image, kinda zoom in on a certain part of it, then use the new zoomed image to replace the original image.
Reading the manual (again) and playing with my new toy.
Thanks
Michael

Do you mean that you want to crop in-camera? I don't think canon offers that feature in this model.

You can resize and resave an image while it is still stored on your SD card in the camera, but you cannot crop images in the camera and then resave them. Read page 127 in your User Guide on resaving. The G9 cannot crop in-camera either.

Yes, I reckon that is what I meant. I thought I did this yesterday. But, apparently not. I thought for sure I took a picture of my fireplace which had a small stool in front of it and then zoomed in to the stool (for whatever reason) and then saved that zoomed shot as an image. Maybe it was that print list feature I did? Anyhoo, in the end, gotta trust you folks, so, thanks for the help. I'm certain I will be back.

Michael, welcome to the forums.
Yes, it was probably the print function, but there are several programs you can use to edit your out of camera shots to a tight crop with little hassle.
Cheers.

Ok on the cropping with other programs. I should have known that. My son does it all the time with his photos.
Great little camera for my first one. I can see I'm gonna have some fun with this one (and probably a few more questions, too)
I do read the manual (several times now) and it's ok. Sometimes, though, it is better to post to a forum of knowledgeable users. I think you folks win that title.
Again, thanks for the help.

Michael,
You might consider downloading the PDF version of your User Guide, then you can more easily find info when you want it. The PDF file has a Search feature in it, so you can type a word related to your question, and let the computer run the search for you. I use it all the time. I have also downloaded lots of these Canon User Guides so I can answer questions for folks like you. I have the G9, but I find it interesting to study other models too. Here's the link on Canon to download your A590 IS User Guide.

You might also be interested in downloading and using the Google Picasa software to do some basic post processing of your images. It's user friendly, and offers more capability than the Zoom Browser that comes with your camera.

denncad, I downloaded that manual way before I bought the camera. That's the only way to go. Thanks for the tip.
What I find is that I sometimes don't understand all the nuances of the functions. I mean, I understand them enough to take great pictures using most of the settings, but sometimes things like which My Colors produces the best picture just boggles my mind. I set up a picture on my dining room table and then place a card on it listing the settings I am using. That helps a great deal.
I read one post that suggested to set the Sharpness to the highest setting. I found that this didn't produce the greatest pictures for me. So, I need to read more, search more, and bug the crap outta you folks more!
Anyhoo, thanks for the linky. I"ll check it out.
I use Studio and Movie Maker a lot. Also, I send stuff to my son who has Photoshop 6 and he does some magic to them. I did not install the disk that came with the camera for managing my photos.
