I just want to know people's different perspective on this idea:
Your wife gave you 10K tax free money to buy camera equipment, what would you get?
Assumptions: You have no gear yet.
My List:
Canon 5D (2.2K)
Used Canon 1DMKii (1.6K)
70-200 2.8 IS (1.6K)
16-35 MKII (1.4K)
24-70 (1K)
35L (1K)
2x580EX2 (.8)
Tripod for 400
Hmm....Not a lot really...if you think of it.

How'd your wife get the money tax-free? That's what I want to know :).

I have almost everything I want, retailed for 11,058.
Everything else I want includes:
Nice L midrange zoom.
70-200L f/2.8 IS
Canon 10-22.
35L f/1.4
50L f/1.4
100mm Macro
And if I had the cash to blow,
Canon 50D
Canon 5D
Canon 18-200 (probarbly only use it for a couple of weeks and then sell it off).
I'm surely convinced most of that fits the budget.

If you talk to me before 2 years then i will tell you it will be my current gear, but if you meaning for the future for now, then i will say i will add another 10k then go with Hasselblad no doubt.
Alternative is to buy at least 2 long primes [400 & 600] and singing with birds.

Wow - what a great question!
Here's what I would get, assuming I had no gear to begin with:
Gitzo 3541LS tripod $700
Wimberley II head $600
Rocket blower $15
50D (used) $750
5D (used) $1000
500mm f4 IS (used) $5000
300mm f4 IS (used) $900
(3) 16GB Samsung CF cards @$33 each on eBay = $100
(2) spare Canon batteries (BP-511A) @ $30 each (used)= $60
70-20 f4 IS (used) $850
Total: $9,975
Wow - I've got 25 bucks left over! That'll go toward the 1.4x extender that I would just have to have.
Also in the works would be a 300mm f4 IS that I'd be dying to get! I really had a tough choice between choosing the 70-200 or the 300mm, but the versatility of the zoom won out over the 300's slight advantage in IQ.

$6115 for that body - Darn! That seems like a lot for a model that's going to be discontinued in a few months.

Well, first i'll spend some money to buy the 1d4, and check out the camera that i'm really, really longing to check out. and after a month or so, if my hand is not glued to the camera yet, i'll sell it out and get myself a 7D + my current gears- 500d, and a 580ex, and a 150-500mm, 100 2.8, may be a 150mm 2.8 . And i'm pretty sure i'll still have about $2-3000 to gain interest somewhere....
