Hi Guys, this is my first post as I have only recently converted to a Canon system after about ten years as a Nikon user.
I am totally blown away by my 1D MkII, but it is a pretty steep learning curve, so forgive me if this is a dumb question.
I started off shooting JPEGS, but have just now started trying to shoot RAWs. They appear in the LCD okay, but they seem invisible to my PC, if I connect the camera directly via Firewire. I am using Windows XP and cannot find anything using Explorer, Canon DP Professional or EOS Viewer. The only thing I can find in the CF card file is a blank folder which appears to have nothing in it. The weird thing is that, if I use a card reader, the files are visible and can be accessed/moved as normal.
I am not getting the same problem with JPEGS.
I have had a look through the post archive, but couldn't find anything similar, so sorry if this has come-up before.
Any help would be much appreciated. :o

ChordRed,
Unless I'm misunderstanding you it seems you need the software that reads the raw files. For me I use Photoshop CS which comes with a raw converter. Your camera should come with a CD that contains the software to convert your raw files. Load that up then use it to open your raw files. You should be able to save it to JPEG or TIFF files after you're done doing the corrections you need to in RAW.

Why don't you just try the EOS Viewer and Digital Photo Pro that is supplied with the MkII????

Looks like he tried the Canon software based on what was posted. ;)
This is odd,.. personally I only ever use a card reader,. so I do not know if I too may even have the same problem... ???

I believe that you have to connect the camera and turn it on before launching DPP or EOS Viewer Utility.

I've used camera cable only once, when setting personal functions. Card readers are cheap, fast and you can keep using the camera during transfer.

Yes, there is a problem getting .CR2 from the camera directly via Explorer. If you are downloading directly from the camera, you'll need the EOS Viewer.
However with a card reader, you can see the RAW.

Welcome to the Dark side, he he. I did the same a couple of years ago. No regrets other than learning the new technology.
Enjoy.

Thanks, everybody.
Just for the record, I have been using the software that came with the camera (Eos Viewer and Canon Digital Photo Professional) as well as Explorer. The problem was that even this software wasn't seeing the RAW files when the camera was hooked-up directly.
I have now tried turning the camera on first, (thanks Scott) and this does the trick with EOS Viewer, but not DP Pro.
I agree with people's sentiments about readers and would normally use mine anyway - it's just a little disconcerting whan a £3000 camera doesn't do something pretty fundamental that it is apparently meant to. . .
Thanks again.
