do you pay a licensing fee for this use?
or is it ok to complain about others using your photos w/o compensation or notice, but not the other way around? ;)

As much I hate the sound of most royalty-free music (Stock20.com, TripleScoopMusic, http://shawnreeder.com/srm/index.php, etc) - it is the right thing to do OR go out and the rights to play the "popular" music...
(note: I like the instrumental royalty-free music, but most things with lyrics... UGH! (IMHO))

I contacted the person who made the music I'm using.
He was very kind and had no objections what so ever. I of course gave him credit where credit was due.

You definitely need to use royalty-free music, or get permission to use songs for websites. Most Royalty Free Music isn't that great, I've found some decent music and sound effects at http://www.productiontrax.com (http://www.productiontrax.com/) though. They have a big selection, so you are bound to find something that you can live with.

Use RF music, the fees you would end up paying to license the popular music on the radio would probably put you out of business. You would end up spending more time dealing with lawyers than shooting photos.
One decent place is Triple Scoop Music (http://www.triplescoopmusic.com)

I've used music recorded by unsigned indie artists. In every case, they've granted my request. That makes sense. It's exposure for them.
