The new firmware 1.1 includes

Three new languages (Russian, Korean, and Traditional Chinese) have been added to the camera menus.
The phenomenon of horizontal line noise appearing in images taken at high ISO settings while using the internal flash has been fixed.
I haven't updated mine yet and haven't had any trouble with 1.0.5 yet.

I haven't upgraded, but my 2-weeks old 20D had already firmware 1.1 installed.
After 700 shots, I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever that could be related anyhow to the firmware.
A lot of my shots are family shots with the internal flash and I haven't seen anything that I can imagine being horizontal noise.

Canon wouldn't have released a firmware upgrade if there wasn't a problem it addressed. Everyone may not have had the problem show up but its still there. Keep up to date and you will have a better more reliable product.

Just my 1 cents worth..

Simon, I see you have one of those fancy D20s.... are they like a 20D?

(sorry for being a pedant, thought i'd point out the error)

My camera came with the standard version. Done 2500 shots in first week, and no problems so far.

Any worthwhile reasons to upgrade if it's not crashing? Sometimes get back to the feeling, if it's not broke, don't fix.

Still using version 1.0.5, over 6000 shots so far, no issues.

As long as you don't, ever, use the internal flash with high ISO settings, and your preferred language isn't one of the ones they added in 1.1.0, and you don't believe that they did some additional work on the notorious 20D freeze for 1.1.0 (I experienced it with 1.0.5, haven't with 1.1.0). Are you sure you're not already at 1.1.0? Check the Firmware Version value from the menu.
