Getting an ISBN # ?

Im looking at publishing a couple of books that i'd like to put up for sale in the book stores. Does anybody know where i go to get the books registered to get the barcode & ISBN number?

thats the easy way .. .but surely there are some people out here that have published something by themselves (blurb etc not counted)

Just follow the instructions.

The hard part will be getting the book into shops and on sale, after you had it printed.
You might want to search for a small niche market publisher who is able to help, unless you believe the books are likely to be popular, then can submit the manuscripts to a variety of publishers and see who wants to run with it.

If you do manage to get it published and have an ISBN number assigned, then send me a PM. I work in the retail side of the industry and might be able to help you get it stocked somewhere.

There's a book publisher just a few miles from me, so I set up a meeting just to see what they'd say about mine (Blurb published).
After telling me just how great they are & looking the book over (see my Sig), they said "Of course we'll have our staff completely redo the layout, but we can get started with an investment of only $20,000!" :D

Well, then that should have been part of your first post. You asked where to get the ISBN, I pointed it out. If you are planning on publishing a book, I'd work on your grammar.
